Many times I have made parts that have several blind threaded holes that need to be tapped by hand for that last thread or two. The problem I had was that I kept forgetting which holes I had completed due to the fact that I kept wiping the hole clean after I bottom tapped it. I tried using a magic marker but it becomes too messy when mixed with cutting oil and it takes too much time. So I finally wised up and began leaving the chips from the tap on top of the part so that I knew which holes had been tapped. I didn't clean the part until I was done bottom tapping the last hole.
